Overall, there was a noticeable sense of the solar sector having gained momentum again during this year’s Intersolar trade show in Munich. Our industry has received fresh impetus, particularly because investing in PV plants has proven to be a very attractive alternative during these times of low interest rates thanks to guaranteed feed-in tariffs over an investment period of 20 years.

It is these guaranteed feed-in tariffs coupled with a decline in component prices which spur on the market further. The fact that big companies like Mercedes Benz or General Electric invest again in the solar sector can be seen as additional proof of this development!

Great Response: CEO Breakfast featuring „Repowering“


As part of the Intersolar, the „CEO Breakfast Intersolar Europe 2017“ hosted by Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt AG took place at the Novotel Munich Messe hotel on June 2nd . Many representatives of the PV industry showed up to listen to a presentation by Sönke Jäger, CTO of ADLER Solar. The topic was “Why Repowering is more than PV plant repair”. During the lively subsequent discussion, Mr. Jäger answered questions of participants. Especially the warranty aspect was a focus point.

ADLER Solar appoints Sönke Jäger as Chief Technical Officer

The German government’s amendments to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) for 2017 have re-energised the solar energy sector. After a phase of stagnation, demand for photovoltaic plants is now once again on the rise. Alongside this new era of growth, the modules and BOS components used in PV systems are becoming ever-more powerful and complex – and the challenges faced by PV providers are evolving accordingly.

To meet these developing needs, ADLER Solar has appointed Sönke Jäger as Chief Technical Officer, and has completed a management-level restructuring in the fields of sales, products and technology. The sales team has also been restructured, and is now split into dedicated areas of competence:

  • Services – managed by Claas Oltmann
  • Projects – managed by Ronny Hager
  • Consulting/sales strategy – managed by Falko Krause

 
„As we have expanded our offering to include repowering and plant construction, the complexity of our service portfolio has increased significantly. The creation of the new position of CTO is part of our strategy to tackle the new challenges we face, and will enable us to respond to the needs of our customers in an even more targeted way. An industrial engineering graduate and a certified specialist in photovoltaics, Sönke has been employed by ADLER Solar in various leadership positions since 2011, most recently as Technical Director of Engineering Solutions.

His well-founded technical understanding, combined with his outstanding knowledge of all aspects of the PV sector and his commercially minded approach, make him the perfect choice for this new position. This step – together with the restructuring, which enables us to focus on specific professional specialisms within our sales team – will put us in a great position as the market grows“, explains Gerhard Cunze, Executive Partner of ADLER Solar.

 

Gerald Wotruba resigns as planned as Representative Director of ADLER Solar Works in Japan

After the conclusion of the second fiscal year of ADLER Solar Works, Representative Director Gerald Wotruba left the company as intended the end of May.

Milestones of the past two years comprise:

  • Established O&M services for a continually growing portfolio (to date 70 MW / 80 projects)
  • Established and commissioned services in the area of quality management „Made in Germany“ and adapted them to the Japanese market
  • Built a customised training centre with a specifically assembled PV plant as part of the Renewable-Energy-Solutions-Programme of Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena)

 
„My task to position this joint venture successfully at the Japanese market has been accomplished within these two years. It was an extremely interesting time – at times even pioneer work – since the Japanese PV market is still relatively young in comparison to the German one, especially when it comes to large scale plants. As projected, both partners could benefit from the mutual knowledge transfer as well as utilising their respective networks. Upon my return to Germany, I will take on a new challenge at ADLER Solar but continue to act as a consultant for the joint venture. My tasks will then be assumed by the designated YKD Representative Director Noriko Hirano and the ASW team“, says Gerald Wotruba.

Founded in April 2015, ADLER Solar Works is a joint venture between the Japanese firm “Solar Works” – a subsidiary of PV general contractor (EPC) Yokohama Kankyo Design Co., Ltd. (YKD) – and ADLER Solar Services GmbH, based in Germany. From the very beginning, Gerald Wotruba as Representative Director substantially contributed to the successful set-up of this joint venture.
